Treatments
Hypnotherapy can help you with a huge range of issues and a comprehensive list can be found by clicking here. Alternatively, click the links below to find out more information on some of the most common problems I can help you with.
Quitting Smoking
Despite the well-known dangers of smoking, millions of people continue their habit, and often loved ones will be puzzled as to why they just don’t quit if they know it’s destroying their health.
Unfortunately, logic has very little to do with the smoking habit – it’s actually controlled by the subconscious mind, which stores memories, habits and emotions. Hypnotherapy has been demonstrated to be a very effective method of kicking the smoking habit permanently, as it targets this powerful part of the mind and replaces the old habit with a new one. Just think how much healthier you’ll be when you replace each cigarette with a glass of water!

Weight Control
Ever tried sticking to a diet and ended up giving in?
In our society, where magazines are covered with glossy images of the “perfect figure” and image is seen as all-too important, it’s no wonder that many people are concerned over their weight – whether it be too large or too thin!
Hypnotherapy can help you shed those pounds by controlling binge eating and adapting your eating habits to live a healthier lifestyle, motivating you to exercise. Just as important, your confidence will be boosted as research as shown that we often turn to food as comfort when we are feeling low about ourselves.
I also provide you with a Weight Control CD, so you can take home a copy afterwards and listen to it whenever you feel the need.
Anxiety and Stress
Anxiety, or what we often call stress, is a natural part of our daily lives – even positive events can be stressful, and our lives would probably be a little dull if there wasn’t a small element of occasional stress!
However, it is important to mange our stress effectively and prevent build up. Without treatment, it can result in physical and emotional problems, such as high blood pressure, a weakened immune system, depression and headaches, to name a few.
Common signs of stress:
- Heart palpitations, heart pounding, irregular heart beat, increased heart rate, chest pains
- Increased blood pressure
- Persistent fatigue
- Tension headaches or migraine headaches
- Sleep disturbances, sleeplessness/insomnia, restlessness, sleep too much, trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or early waking
- Loss of concentration, fuzzy perception, poor judgment
- Mood swings, irritability, moodiness
- Low self-esteem
- Anxiety, nervousness, feelings of panic
- Loss of sense of humour
- Over emotional, tearful

Stuttering and Stammering
The use of hypnosis in the treatment of stuttering and other communication disorders is not new and reports date back to the late 19th century. No one really knows the exact cause of stammering and although it is a physical problem, it is widely believed that the cause is psychological – as an example, during hypnosis, many people find that when they are in a very relaxed state, they do not stammer.
The good news is that no one is born with a stammer – it’s a learned behaviour and can, therefore, be unlearned with hypnotherapy.
There is no single approach that is guaranteed to 'cure' a stammer, but hypnotherapy can help you find what works best for them to alleviate you of your symptoms as much as possible and allow you to speak more clearly and with confidence.
Snoring
Is snoring ruining your night’s sleep? Do you and your partner sleep in separate beds because of the noise?
Snoring affects approximately 40% of the population, affecting men more than women and is more prevalent from middle-age onwards.
Snoring is due to vibration of the tissues of the upper airway due to turbulence of air in this area, particularly on inspiration. The vibration usually involves the soft palate, the back of the tongue and the back wall of the throat.
Other ways to help alleviate snoring include losing weight, reducing alcohol intake and using a specially adapted dental shield.
Goal Achievement
Is there something you really want to do, but feel something is holding you back?
Hypnotherapy can help you achieve your goals by tackling the obstacles you feel are holding you back. Whether you’d like to change jobs, move house, start a business, pass an exam or get a promotion, you can choose to be a success!
Fears and Phobias
Although these terms are often used interchangeably, there is a difference between a fear and a phobia.
We can have a fear of poisonous snakes, for example, but this would be seen as rational as there is a definite potential threat to our survival. However, a phobia is classed as an irrational fear, such as fear of open spaces, buttons, horses, or just about anything!
Phobias can appear in childhood as a result of fear, which was attached to an object or experience. Additionally, they may have been formed from behaviour passed down from a parent. For example, if a child’s parent is afraid of dogs, they may teach their child that dogs are dangerous and are to be avoided at all costs. Alternatively, a phobia may follow a traumatic event, such as being bitten by a dog.
Over time, phobias can cause a lot of distress to the sufferer, affecting many areas of their lives. Fortunately, phobias can successfully be treated with hypnotherapy by eliminating the fear.
You can find more information here on the Fears and Phobias page. WARNING: there is a picture of a large spider on this page.
Public Speaking
Many of us dread the thought of having to speak in public, whether in a work situation or when giving a speech at a wedding. However, these worries can be dealt with easily with hypnotherapy, allowing you to maintain calm and composed and deliver a speech or presentation with confidence.
Sleeping Difficulties
Sleep is essential to both our physical and mental well-being, although almost a quarter of the population frequently experience sleeping difficulties, which become more common with age.
Lack of REM can result in irritability, anxiety and concentration problems.
Unwanted Habits
- Nail biting
- Bruxism (teeth grinding)
- Nervous twitches
- Knuckle cracking
- Thumb sucking (adults)
Pain Management
Pain is the body’s way of telling us that something is wrong. Whilst not all pain is due to an actual physical cause, it is important to get the possibility of this ruled out by a GP before beginning hypnotherapy.
However, if the cause is physical, self-hypnosis can be taught to induce anaesthesia in the painful area to reduce the amount of pain experienced.
Hypnosis is one of the oldest and most documented psychological interventions for the reduction of pain and suffering. It can help alleviate pain for various illnesses and disorders, including arthritis, tension headaches/migraines, chronic pain, post operative care, and can even offer support for cancer patients.
If you suffer from any kind of pain, be sure visit your GP to obtain a diagnosis or referral.
